CB Radio in America

CB Radio in America.
Well I am still hearing plenty of American skip coming through, on ch 38 lsb.
Also quite a bit of activity on ch 6 Lsb, 26 division giving it some in return. (of course)
Soon I will be able to legaly be on that part of the band on SSB/AM.
So you Americans, and you people in Europe, look out for even more QRM from the UK .
Baker 25 will be out there calling CQ CQ CQ, that IS OF COURSE ME . :O)
I must admit some of the American AM signals sound great, I will have to look into what mikes they are using.

CB Radio in America

CB Radio in America
Citizens band radio to be Precise has been around a long time, especially in America.
Most of us know what its about, its uses range etc.
This next part is really for people who may be thinking of buying a Cb radio, or maybe new to it.
Here is a list of what most of us consider, the bare minimum of equipment, and what its for.
A CB Radio an Antenna, a swr meter, and a patch lead.
Remember that any old Antenna will not do, it has to me a dedicated Cb Radio Antenna.
I will ad a page explaining how the swr meter should be used, and how to tune  your Antenna.
CB radio is a little daunting at first, every one seems to know every one else.
To be honest in most areas this is true, but do not be put off, sit and listen for a few days.
Longer if needed.
Soon you will get to know a few of the local characters, who is fun to listen to and who to avoid.
A lot of people just go to the 19 and ask for a Radio check, try it to se if people can hear you.
You may get a roger breaker , your radio sounds fine or something similar.
CB Radio is like most things in life, you get what you pay for.
When you go to buy your CB radio, ask for advice.
Range on CB Radio is mostly down to what Antenna you have, the Wilson range are pretty good as are Sirio.
An amplifier will boost your signal, but if you cant hear who is coming back........
So Ask around as to what Antenna to buy, there will be a few different opinions.
Of course :o)
Now for the fun part, giving your self a Handle, that part is down to you my friend.
Here are a few examples of CB radio Handles.
Fatman yes that's me :o)
big boy.
big d
Crazy horse, china man, Wizard, Road hog etc etc etc.
I will say if you are female avoid Cb handles like blue eyes, green eyes etc, there will be another woman with the same handle not far away.
People on CB Radio do not like other people to use the same handle, it causes confusion.
If you don't know any one on CB Radio in your area, try to get one of your friends or family to get one.
Having a friend to talk to, is a great way to start out.
People will hear you talking, soon you will be one of the locals.
Always remember no matter what time of day, or night someone will be there listening.
Here are a few things that I recommend not to do.
Never give your full name.
Never give out your full home address, or phone number.
Well I hope this has been of some help to anyone reading.
There are loads more topics, and pages to come.
Having done some research I realise that some States are pretty quiet on CB Radio.
I will post detailed findings soon,
Please either follow this blog, or ad it to your favourites I will try to make this place a good place to come and Talk CB radio.

CB Radio in America

CB Radio in America.
Having actually been on CB radio in America I can say with some authority, its still being put to good use.
I visited Virginia for 2 weeks and had the Cb radio on, I also visited a local truck stop to take a look at what was on offer.
When I walked in there I was drawn to a mag mounted k40 Antenna.
Yes I think that's the one I want I said to my girl friend.
From behind  a fella said , hey the K40 coils melt buddy.
I turned arount to se A BIG TRUCKER,   the Wilson 1000 is a much better antenna he said with a smile.
We had a chat and he asked  where I was from etc, then I asked him how much power he ran from his mobile.
About 1500 watts he replied, OMG  he even had a bigger Alternator fitted to the truck to cope with  the power drain.
The American people on cb radio , generally have more space for Antenna installations.
I did se some Cb Antennas up in the air , although to be honest nothing massive.
Now for your information, I live in England, and have spoken to quite a few Americans over the years.
Now what I would like is for anyone visiting this page to give your name and cb handle.
It would be great to hear your Cb tales, or just a simple hi maybe.
For your information  my mobile setup is a superstar 360fm, sirio megawat4000 and a kl400.
As some of you will know, Offcom will soon be making legal the use of ssb and AM in the UK.
About time  :o)
Available frequencys will be from. 26.965 (CH1) TO 27.405 (ch40)
I have already made and put to use a callsign, my call is Baker 25, and here is a link to my Baker 25 logbook. Baker 25 log
The power limit will be some thing like 12wssb and 4w Am, more to follow.

Pictures of different radios.
